OK, so you’ve created and rendered your brand new model but you want to render a wireframe version of your model to show off the flawless topology that you’ve spent hours painstakingly perfecting.
Well to start off with you need your model, and specially for this tutorial I have created this amazing symmetrical, multifaced model!
Off course, to make it look even better, we can set smooth and add a subsurf modifier to get this:
Mmm, looking good, now lets render it:
Awesome! Now to create the wireframe render…
First we need to add a material to the model, we can do this by clicking on the materials button to bring up the materials panel and then click the ‘Add New’ button.
Then lets click on the ‘Wire’ button that appears…
… and lets see what we get when we render …
Now that’s looking like a wireframe. However, as I want to show off all the ‘hard work’ that I put into this ‘really difficult’ model
, I need a wireframe that is less cluttered. We can do this by clicking the ‘Optimal Draw’ button in the Subsurf modifier.
… and we get this …
… way to go, now thats looking better! But to really show the original model’s topology we need to turn off the Subsurf modifier altogether. We can do this without having to remove the modifier altogether by hiding the modifier when rendering. Hit this button to do this:
and the final wireframe render …
Nice… Now there’s no excusing not posting a wireframe up in the next Blender Challenge you enter!
Of course, if you really did have trouble following this tutorial, I would recommend that you look at the Solid Wireframe Video Tutorial over at BlenderNewbies. It goes a lot further than this quick tutorial.
